GUY

The Grindr musical that reminds us our hearts may just be as big as the internet.

Book/Lyrics by Leo Mercer
Music by Stephen Hyde

Guy is a queer rom-com musical with a big heart. He’s also fat, nerdy, introverted and looking for love. As one more ‘sorry, not my type’ pushes Guy over the edge, he makes the reckless decision to pass himself off as his conventionally attractive flatmate on a gay dating app, to see what life would be like as one of the beautiful people for just one night. That’s when he meets the man of his dreams.

Feeling catfish-guilty but determined Guy decides to make a change - to get fit to fit in. When he clicks with a fellow queer outsider, Aziz, at the gym, his obsession with his looks, online rejection, and the guy he met online blinds him to idea that this friendship could be something more – that someone could want him for him.

Throughout 12 heart-pounding electronic pop anthems, and almost as many plot twists, we’ll follow Guy as he spirals out of self-control into random hook-ups, binge eating, pointless exercise, and prejudices both real and imagined until he finally finds love.

Rogue Projects is incredibly proud to be working with Leo & Hyde to bring their musicals to Australia. This new co-production will augment elements from the British presentations with new ideas from our Australian team. We’re planning big things for this little musical and are keen to hear from presenters, festivals and venues about introducing the work to their communities.
